Common cherries are almost as popular as apples, pears and plums. Cherry Orchards are a long-standing omen of domestic dachas and estates, Chekhov's "Cherry Orchard" is a vivid confirmation of this. I. himself was engaged in breeding varieties of cherry and its hybrids with bird cherry. His work was continued by his students, they bred many new varieties, including youth cherry, the description of the variety of which is given below.

Cherry "Molodezhnaya", description, advantages and disadvantages

The famous breeders S.N. Satarova and Kh.D. Enikeev. For selection were selected quite old varieties, which can be safely attributed to varieties of national selection, since the exact origin of the cherries "Vladimirskaya" and "Lyubskoy", which became the parental forms for "Molodezhnaya", is unknown.

Since 1993, the medium-ripening variety "Molodezhnaya" has been recommended for cultivation in the Central Region, including the Moscow Region. Differs in low, up to 2.5 m, trees and very often grows in bush form. The crown is rather compact, rounded, with a slight drooping of the branches. The leaf plates are bright green with jagged edges. Fruiting was noted both on the bouquet branches and on the growths of the previous year.

The fruits are large, oval in shape, very dark burgundy when ripe. The average weight of cherries is up to 4.5 g. The stone is medium in size, separates well from the dense and juicy pulp. The berries have a very pleasant dessert taste, sweet, with a pleasant sourness. Dark red juice. Cherry "Molodezhnaya" can be considered a universal variety.

Its fruits are good both for fresh food and for processing into jams, preserves, syrups, juices, wine and compotes. The winter hardiness of the tree itself is above average, however, a very average resistance to low temperatures of flower buds should be noted. The advantages of the variety are:

  • high yield
  • early maturity
  • self-fertility
  • annual fruiting
  • fruits of good taste and attractive appearance

The disadvantages of the variety include:

  • resistance to coccomycosis by 2-3 points
  • moderate resistance to moniliosis and other fungal infections

How to plant "Youth"

Seat selection

Cherries will grow best in a sunny location, sheltered from the north wind, but with good ventilation. The site should have loose soil with a neutral reaction. Even on slightly acidic soil, cherry trees will grow worse, in addition, their resistance to fungal infections will be greatly reduced.

If, nevertheless, the soil is acidic, then lime must be added a year before planting. It is not recommended to deacidify the ground just before planting cherries. Otherwise, the seedling will root very poorly and may not take root at all. Important! Cherry trees should not be placed in low and damp places.

Preparing for landing

In the fall, the site needs to be dug up. For digging, it is advisable to add humus of 10 kg per one square meter. and 30 to 40 g of complex mineral fertilizer, if the soil is poor. The amount of fertilizer is halved if the planting of cherries is planned on fertile land.

If the seedlings are purchased in the fall, then they need to be dug in obliquely, covered from rodents and stored until spring. Seedlings can be bought in the spring, but the buds on them should not be opened. It is best to choose annual seedlings of at least 0.8 m or biennial trees about 110 cm high.

A pit is prepared for planting, 0.6 m by 0.6 m in size. A mound of fertile land is poured at the bottom. The plant is set in a hole so that the root collar is at ground level. The pit is covered with soil, the plant is watered with 1-2 buckets of water and the irrigation site is mulched with peat or compost.

Cherry tree care

It is important to organize at least two waterings per season, for the first time, in the absence of precipitation, the trees are watered immediately after the end of flowering, when the ovary begins to form. The second mandatory watering is carried out after harvest. Important! Do not water the cherry 3-4 weeks before the fruit ripens. For the prevention of diseases, it is necessary in the spring and autumn to remove all plant residues, especially fallen leaves, broken twigs.

A good prevention against fungal and other diseases is double spring spraying of trees with a 3% solution of Bordeaux liquid.

The first time the cherries are sprayed before the leaves bloom, and the second time the procedure is carried out immediately after flowering. In wet years and with too dense plantings, the plants can be sprayed in the fall, when all the cherries are plucked from the trees. Cherry trees need pruning. It is best to spend it on a warm spring day before bud break. First of all, you need to cut off all damaged and broken branches.

After that, carefully examine the tree and cut out the branches that grow inside the crown. After that, the root shoots are cut if there is no goal to get a new plant. If the care of Molodezhnaya cherries is organized correctly, then its trees will live and bear fruit for at least 15 years.

The benefits of cherry berries

Cherry berries, especially such as the "Molodezhnaya" variety with colored dark juice, are a source of vitamins and macro-microelements. They are recommended for use in case of vitamin deficiencies, anemia. But cherry berries are of particular importance for those who are prone to gout or suffer from it.

Daily consumption of fresh cherries not only cleanses the body of toxins, but also reduces the level of uric acid. If during the season there is an opportunity to eat fresh cherries, then this must be done daily, using it on an empty stomach, 20-30 berries several times a day.

In addition to berries, you can dry cherry leaves and take their decoction as a diuretic or expectorant. In addition, cherry leaf tea is beneficial for heart rhythm disturbances and high blood pressure. A decoction of the leaves can also be used externally for compresses for joint pain. Thus, it is worth planting 2-3 Molodezhnaya trees on the plots in order to provide the family with tasty and healthy cherries.
