Competent care is the key to a beautiful and persistent flowering

We have already found out that gardenia is a capricious lady, so the hostess will have to pay special attention to her. When asking about caring for a plant, you must first decide what kind of gardenia we are talking about. Most often, on the windows of our compatriots, you can find a jasmine gardenia. This variety is less capricious and is excellent for planting in our climatic conditions.

Even a novice florist can cope with a jasmine gardenia, since the plant does not require special knowledge to its person. Gardenia is an evergreen plant that can grow to a height of 150 centimeters. During flowering, lonely buds are formed, the flowering color is white, in some cases yellow. There are several main points to pay attention to when caring for this plant.

Watering. Gardenia is a moisture-loving plant, but whatever is good is good in moderation. Therefore, remember that the next watering should be started when the soil from the previous one is completely dry. In the summer period, 3-4 waterings per week are enough, in the winter gardenia, 1-2 waterings are enough every seven days. During flowering, the moisture level should be high enough, so you will have to water the shrub every other day.

The soil. If you bought a gardenia from a store and want to transplant the plant, then give preference to a mixture of sand, peat and deciduous waste. In such an environment, the gardenia will feel just amazing and will definitely take root in a new place.

Temperature. The snow-white beauty is a rather heat-loving plant. Gardenia does not tolerate drafts, strong temperature fluctuations, and even more so frost. Be aware, however, that direct sunlight can damage the plant.

Top dressing. It is best to feed the plant during the "calm" period. In no case do not fertilize during the flowering period, otherwise you will have to say goodbye to your pet forever.

Watering, proper selection of soil, top dressing and maintaining the required temperature are basic care, but the further "fate" of the plant depends on it. However, one must not forget that gardenia is a rather painful flower, so the grower needs to know how to deal with plant diseases.

Helping your beloved plant

Gardenia prefers systematic care. Naturally, this young lady can be capricious, and the only thing a florist may encounter in the early stages of development is the falling of flower buds. Of course, this is not a pleasant phenomenon, and most often the reasons lie in non-observance of the temperature regime.

It has already been written above that the plant belongs to a number of thermophilic ones. Gardenia hates sudden changes in temperature. In order not to face such a problem as falling buds, try to observe a competent temperature regime. During the day, the air temperature should be in the range of 18-20 degrees Celsius, at night a slight drop in temperature is allowed.

Black leaves are the second problem that a novice florist may face. Strong watering also negatively affects the "well-being" of the gardenia, so if you notice something is wrong, stop pouring the capricious lady. Lack of iron can cause the leaves to turn yellow or pale. Where can I find a solution to this problem? At any flower shop. Give preference to products for flowering plants, it is they that contain an increased amount of iron and magnesium.

Note to flower growers:

  • keep watering moderately
  • do not allow sudden temperature changes
  • feed the plant
  • remove blackened leaves from the trunk of the plant using nail scissors

As we found out, gardenia can also hurt. The culprit is the improper handling of the plant. Remember about proper watering, observing the temperature regime and making the necessary fertilizing in a timely manner.

Windowsill Beauty Can Benefit

In addition to its external appeal, gardenia is also used in folk medicine. In many countries, gardenia roots are used for the preparation of medicines. The fact is that funds based on the gardenia root have an excellent anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and tonic effect. Gardenia fruits help fight fever. Do not think that leaflets cannot be useful in the household.

In folk medicine, there is information that the leaves have an antiseptic effect, therefore they are recommended to be applied to a wound, a burn site and some types of tumor. Gardenia is especially popular in its homeland. Traditional healers use it widely in the treatment of many diseases.

Teas based on gardenia leaves are especially relevant for apathy, nephritis and dysentery. Of course, before using this "folk medicine" we recommend that you consult with your doctor, as self-medication can do more harm than good.

Gardenia is a gorgeous white coquette that requires some experience from the grower. The plant will surely please with persistent flowering, but the most important condition is proper care for this beautiful plant. We advise beginner growers to opt for jasmine gardenia, as this is the most acceptable option for beginners. Flower mood!
