Generalitа
This species of jasmine is native to China, and is a deciduous shrub, resistant to cold. It appears as a tuft, more or less dense, of thin dark green branches, straight and rigid; the leaves are shiny, slightly leathery, dark green too, and consist of three small leaves. This shrub towards the end of winter gives us a splendid flowering of small yellow flowers, which bloom starting from the base of the branches, before the appearance of the leaves.
The G. of S. Giuseppe often tends to grow abundantly, reaching even 2-3 meters in height, to obtain a compact shape it is advisable to prune it just after flowering; every 3-4 years it is possible to proceed with a total renewal of the branches of the g. in winter, pruning the jasmine 10-15 cm from the base. The partially creeping habit of Jasminum nudiflorum also makes the plant suitable as a ground cover, or as a climber, but only if placed close to special structures on which it grows.
Exposure
Jasmine in winter or g. di S. Giuseppe is a very rustic plant, which grows well in any position, both in full sun and in complete shade.
However, remember that plants in full sun bloom profusely, while those in the shade tend to produce more leaves than flowers. If the winters are particularly harsh it may occasionally happen that frost spoils the floral buds of Jasminum nudiflorum.
If you live in areas with very cold winters it is therefore advisable to watch over and, if necessary, cover the plant with non-woven fabric in December and January.
In areas with very hot climate it is suggested to place the jasmine in a partially shaded place.
